I’ve got a ’40s 000-18 that has had a California neck reset in the past. The good news is, they left the back untrimmed, And notched a recess into the tip of the heel to accommodate the binding. I would like to undo this for its current neck reset, ideally without removing the back. What method would you suggest for loosening the neck block from the back (without damaging finish). It looks like a spatula or knife blew through the bottom part of the neck block when the original procedure was done, then misaligned when put back.
Second question with this guitar, the fingerboard goes from 1/16 of an inch edge measurement at the nut, to 5/32 edge measurement at the heel. At what point is a well-executed fingerboard replacement The move for a ww2 era Martin? This one has been thin to the point of burning into the old side dots, And has a current neck relief of 008 1-14 not under tension. Thank you Elders.
