Headstock too thin

Headstock too thin
Hi guys,
I thinned my headstock on my neck blank too much. Right now it is at about 9mm. It should be around 12mm. Can anyone give me advice on how to make sure it won’t break? I was thinking about doing a Maple and Ebony veneer on the top and the bottom. What would be enough thickness?

Hey: You are on the right track. Just add enough veneers and as many layers needed to build up the back of the headstock and same on the front. There is nothing set in stone that the face veneer or overlay needs to be a specific thickness. Mine are around .125″, but they could be thicker if needed. You can also stack to black veneers to make it look like one thicker veneer.

Plus it will look PRETTY

I stacked 7 layers of veneer together to make a backstrap on my previous build because the headstock got too thin when I got a little happy sanding down the back of it to make the volute, lol. It worked out and I have had zero issues. With all of them epoxied together, it looks like one single thick piece of wood.
