New member intro
Being new here, thought I would post an introduction.
My name is Paul McGill
Mcgillguitars.com
I have been making guitars since 1976.
I have lived and worked in Nashville since 1985 when I relocated here to work in the repair/restoration shop at Gruhn guitars. 410 Broadway, now a novelty shop. I was there a short time before commiting full time to guitar making as I had done prior to moving here.
My main influence as a guitar maker was Robert Ruck who over the course of 50 years was the US’s most prolific independent guitar maker. In 1978 I located in Madison Wisc where Robert lived at that time. Later in life we had a greater interaction. How any one made 30 guitars a year for all those years is so impressive. No CNCs, lots of hand work and detail.
I started out to be a classical guitar maker but after many years was inspired to do more.
During my years in the north I made Steel string guitars as well for several local acts. One became famous as Timbuk 3, another was an act known as Free Hot Lunch.
My history includes many known guitarists. In 89 Earl Klugh recorded “Solo Guitar” on 2 of my classical guitars, then recorded many more. He influenced me to make him Del Vecchio style resonators guitar which brought me to Chet Atkins and many acts, Jim Stafford, Steve Earl, and the legendary Nato Lima of Los Indios Tabajaras.
In 1998 I was inspired to use new amplification technology to make high vol nylon string Stage guitars.
Within a year Peter White adopted my design and we have worked together all of these years.
By 2012 I knew I had to have amplification to serve loud stages. My instruments are known for feedback resistance. Baggs, Fishman, K&k, etc…….. Are inadequate for my needs.
Thus began the long journey that is today- Go Acoustic Audio-
GoAA is advanced acoustic guitar amplification that overcomes cycling and allows a guitarist to express and control their sound with finesse and touch sensitivity.
GoAA developed beyond my expectations after I met my partner Ben Shaw in 2015. Ben had a history of audio electrical mastery through his time spent on Music row at Oceanway studios. He brings concepts to Goaa that separate it from other products.
GoAA is used by many others besides Peter White now. Its a long list of great guitar players.
The most well known on our list is Pat Metheny who has been touring since late 23 with GoAA. But there are many others listed on our site.
This is our review page on facebook.

So before I go, here are some pictures of my work.
Nice to meet your all and if you see me around perhaps you will better understand who I am.
