Hey, fellow Looths. I need a small favour…

    Short version:
Go to https://statuesque-cocada-438199.netlify.app and listen and vote. It takes about a minute.

    Longer version:
A friend’s son is studying music and audio production in college and is working on a project to test the covered versus uncovered humbucker question. He reached out to me for some help and I’m reaching out to you.

He designed a solid experiment (even modding a guitar so he can remove and work on the pickup from the rear) and he recorded a heap of tracks for A/B comparison. I’ve went through these with him as a blind listening test but he’s hoping for a wider view from some luthiers and luthier-adjacent folks.

So, he’s added two tracks to the website below and he’d really appreciate it if you could have a listen and vote on which you feel is the uncovered pickup part.

    Here’s how it works:

That website has clean track and a distorted track. One part of each track is the covered humbucker and the other part is the same pickup uncovered. You just need to listen and vote on which part of the track you feel is the uncovered pickup. If you can’t hear any difference, that’s fine — it’s all good data.

I love a good blind A/B test for commonly held guitar beliefs so I’m interested in how this pans out. I’ll update this post with the results.

This will be open until Friday, 18th April. Go have a listen and help out an interested student.

Yeah. Will post the results after the submissions are closed. It’s an interesting exercise, isn’t it?
