Hey, fellow Looths. I need a small favour… Short version: Go to https://statuesque-cocada-438199.netlify.app and listen and vote. It takes about a minute. Longer version: A friend’s son is studying music and audio production in college and is working on a project to test the covered versus uncovered humbucker question. He reached out to me for some help and I’m reaching out to you. He designed a solid experiment (even modding a guitar so…

I have a customer bringing in a Taylor 410CE with intermittent problem pickup output cutting out. It has the 2 AA battery system I understand that Taylor no longer makes any repair parts for this system. If it is the output jack assembly causing the problem, I assume then that the whole system would have to be replaced. I have also heard the replacement system that uses 2 aa batteries does not have great reviews from customers online…
This thing had a conveniently placed hole in the neck pickup cavity that ran all the way to the end of the tenon, presumably the entry point for the long drill bit that drilled the access from pickup cavity to control cavity before the neck was originally fitted. I injected several pipettes of hot water into this hole while heating the fretboard extension area with a silicone blanket to loosen the extension from the body. Reactivated hi…
Hey! I am in the process of switching to full time repair from a home shop and in preparation have picked up a few product lines. So far I have D'Addario, LR Baggs, K and K and Fishman. I worked at a retail store and did all the ordering so it was easy to get these set up. Does anyone on here have opinions or suggestions for lines that they do well with. I do a lot more acoustic than electric work but was considering seymour duncan as a l…
I'll start by saying I don't post much because it's confusing to know if I should post on this site or the Patreon site, both are hard to navigate, etc. Also, I sent this question to the last "elder" meeting but I have no idea what the outcome was (I thought there would be some answers documented for those that can't attend live). So, with those frustrations out of the way... I have in my backlog a 1988 PRS Studio. It has HSS pickup c…
Hi everyone, Thursday we will be doing a video feed with Ian to discuss our work, Developing an Acoustic guitar amplification system that provides players a better option than the common concepts so exploited for so many decades. As part of this discussion we would like to have people offer there issues with pickups and their concerns about what we offer. Given Pickups are so much part of Acoustic guitar performance we would like to hav…

I have two guitars I am working on that are missing a few parts and wanted to see if anyone has them that they would like to sell. I have a customer with an early 50's L5 that he got when he was 10 years old. He wants to reinstall the dearmond rhythm chief but is missing the long beam that connects the controls to the pickup and the small bracket affixes between the string run between the tail piece/bridge. Second, I have a 1978 telecaste…

Hey y’all, I’ve got a customers Strat in, and it had a 30 year old preamp or boost circuit in it that died. So we’re gutting it and replacing it with a standard Strat kind of layout. However, the system was done with individual mini switches for each pickup. The customer would like it to function similarly. I’ve tried to do up the wiring from scratch but haven’t had luck getting it to work as I want. To put it simply, we just want it to be…

Hi there! I am trying to find an schematic to make a circuit I'd like to try. That would be the Gilmour neck PU always on Strat Mod but in a way that connects that extra pickup in series with the rest instead of paralel like in the original gilmour circuit. The thing is I don't even know if it possible to do it that way or how many switches woud you need to do it in the simplest possible way. If you have any feedback, clues, tips or whate…
Hey hive mind! Has anyone ever seen an acoustic saddle modded like this? If you have, what's the purpose of this notch under the b-bump? A client dropped off a bunch of guitars for repairs and setups this weekend and this saddle was in an early 2000's Larrivee dreadnought. It has a factory installed K&K Pure Mini under bridgeplate pickup and sounds great.
