  Help me understand this nut please…

  Hey all. New to this group and at the beginning of my loothing journey. Can someone explain what the block of wood underneath the nut of this ’68 D-18 is and what purpose it serves/what it repaired?

  Not factory, for sure.

  I’m not sure why it would have been cut away, but looks like a previous repair to get the nut seat back to normal height.
