Solder fume extractor?
Posted by Gabby Losch Losch Guitars on March 6, 2025 at 12:29 pmAnyone have a solder fume extractor they particularly like? I just finished a roll of lead-free solder and switched to a leaded core, so I want to be extra cautious about the fumes. Thanks!

Thanks, Brandon! I’d been looking at this: https://theairhood.com/products/airhood-2-portable-kitchen-air-cleaner-range-hood
I have the v1 in my kitchen for particularly smokey foods, and it has worked quite well in the shop, too, so I was thinking of getting the new model to keep in the shop.
Then I saw what Weller offers (https://www.weller-tools.com/us/en/filtration/products/solder-fumes/zerosmog-guard-kit1-alfa-120-v), which are all quite a lot more money, so I wanted to make sure there isn’t something special needed for solder fumes that a less expensive machine won’t pick up.

Thanks, that’s very helpful! Is the model you have particularly loud? The original model of the Airhood sounds like an air raid siren
Nevermind — found the product spec which says it’s 55dbm, which is super reasonable.
