Getting perfectly flat without a jointer
That is a really tall order for a planer probably. If a power jointer isn’t in the cards, with some work, a jointer plane can actually be used to great effect on a project like this. There is some learning to do though.

Hey Everyone!
I have never used west systems epoxy but see it mentioned all over the guitar community.
Could anyone with experience let me know what a good “opening order” is for this brand of epoxy and what the common uses are for it in your shop vs. the stuff I keep buying from home depot.
Thanks!

I just have to show this customer that I’ve checked everything. I’m fairly sure at this point that the neck is wonky. Instruments shipped in from 45% humidity or more to an…

Hi Brandon. Yes, I’m pretty sure at this point that the neck’s tweaked. I’ve spent hours going over everything else to make sure. Most of the work I have so far is from humidity, or lack of. So far, instruments most affected come from online purchases. They come from areas with a humidity of at least 45% or more to a climate that can go as…

Getting perfectly flat without a jointer
Hello — I am trying to joint a Tele-style mahogany neck blank. I have a Metabo planer in good condition, but no jointer. I secured the c. 40 mm thick blank to a flat plywood sled and shimmed it well. It’s hot-glued in place, and absolutely no rocking from any corner or edge. But as I plane it down, I still have about 1 mm difference from one…

Some people claim that they use button lac WITHOUT dewaxing, they say it makes a harder finish. I don’t know who’s wrong or right, it’s just one of those neverending arguments… but other people swear that waxed shellac makes softer finishes. Anyway… 🙂

Have you tried using a capo or clamp to fret notes while using your fretting hand to “feel” for the source of the buzz? Maybe even getting someone to play the bass as you describe while searching for the source using both hands and a closer ear to the instrument.
