      Times are changing!

I’m doing a shop cleanup and parting with boxes of body and pickguard templates I’ve collected over the years. Most of these were made for one-off jobs that I’ll likely never repeat, but I still hung onto them “just in case.”

The real reason I’m letting them go is that my workflow has shifted—CNC and 3D printing have become the standard in my shop, and I don’t see myself going back. I’d much rather let the CNC cut pickguards and deal with the chips than fuss with messy MDF templates. Likewise, 3D printing has become my go-to for new pickup templates.

It took me a while to arrive here, but once the loothgroup introduced me to 3D printing—with the help of Ian Davlin and Ted Bergstrand—it was a quick, slippery slope into the digital world.

I still like doing some things by hand, but these jobs I am more than happy to delegate to the robots.

      Thumbs Up
