    Hi Folks,

I’m new here so I appreciate any input upfront!

I had this guitar come through the shop and I’ve run up against something for the first time.

The neck needs a little relief but when I went to adjust the truss rod the screw was already completely loose thus I couldn’t perform that action.

I tightened it just enough to get the truss rod nut to connect to the truss rod without making an actual adjustment to the neck in the wrong direction.

In this case the player wanted to go from 12-53 strings to 13-56 and this made it perfectly playable due to the increased tension from the heavier gauge string.

That was just lucky but I’d rather solve this correctly for future adjustments.

    Any suggestions on a solution?

It is a 20-25 year old Cort MR-780FX in case that helps at all.

    Cheers!

Sometimes the truss rod can hang up the adjustment if there is surplus glue etc in the channel. Sometimes you can free up the relief just by flexing the neck. I usually grab it by the headstock and pull the head stock up while pushing down on the fingerboard in the middle of the neck. This move is not without risk though and should be used judiciously.
