  • Martin OM-28 Modern Deluxe Truss Rod Nut Inaccessible

I have a Martin OM-28 Modern Deluxe with a backbowed neck. I was thinking it would be an easy correction with the truss rod, but unfortunately, the 4mm wrench that should be able to fit into the truss rod nut under the sound hole isn’t able to get into the nut.

It’s hard to get a good look inside the guitar but it looks like the nut might be partially covered by wood so there’s not enough room to get the wrench in. Has anyone encountered a similar issue where the neck or rod shifts and blocks access to the truss rod nut?

Is there any chance of getting a camera in there to snap a pic ?

Alright, so the truss rod access isn’t obscured (see pic) but I can’t for the life of me get a wrench to grip the nut. I know a lot of Martin’s use 5mm and I read that the Modern Deluxe series – along with a couple of others – https://www.martinguitar.com/gear-accessories/tools/18TOOL15.html – use 4mm. I’ve tried 4mm and 5mm and 9/64 and am having no luck. I know it can take some fiddling to get the wrench in the nut but I’ve never had a problem with any other Martin.

Well, after much fiddling around I finally got a 4mm wrench to grip the nut. I guess I just needed to give it more time. Really makes you appreciate headstock accessible truss rods…
