hi All, just joined and I’ve got this issue for which maybe someone has a brilliant solution.

I’m revising an old 60’s italian Galanti electric. One of the knobs (volume) is secured with a flathead screw which is stuck. Can’t get enough grip on it with my flathead screwdriver to get it to loosen. Tried some WD40, but to no effect.

Any other way to remove it other than drilling it out? Don’t want to damage the original knob.

    thanks!

Is the slot too shallow for the head of the screwdriver to bite, or would a different size flathead fit? I’ve filed screwdrivers to custom fit slots in old non standard screws. I’ve always had better luck with PB Blaster than WD40 for loosening stuck fasteners, but it may be tight because of shrinkage in the knob over time. Last resort, you might be able to heat the screw with a soldering iron and get it out, but that could damage the knob. Maybe sacrifice the pot to get it off the pickguard, and then drill/cut the shaft?

      thanks Evan,

ended up drilling out the fastening screw, re-threading the hole and put in a new one.

did end up with a bit of widening of the screw hole in the knob.
