    Hello looths worldwide ! 🌍

I just moved into a bigger space, called “Comme un Établi” here in Rennes, France (https://www.commeunetabli.fr/). It’s a pretty cool space, with shared tools and knowledge, in which I have 13 square meters dedicated solely to my loothing business.

People here have different jobs (leather work, wood work, metal work, book repair, furniture repair, etc.), and are used to offer workshops to people.

I’m looking for visibility since I lauched this business quite recently, and offering workshops could be a cool way to take in new customers.

I’m already thinking about a stringing workshop, and maybe a pickguard making workshop.

Would you have experience or advice regarding guitar related workshops ? Thanks ! 🛠️

Seems like maybe a pickup swapping and basic adjustment workshop might appeal to a lot of people.

    Hello Jean-Marie,

I’ve done some “stringing and basic cares, action and intonation for players” and people loved them. And you need not much tools for it (I did ask the people to bring their own electronic tuners, Allen keys and screwdrivers if possible).

Good luck on your new phase💪🤗

I’ve done a basic setup class where we covered electric guitars only. It was three hours and included measuring and evaluating action, adjusting truss rods, changing strings, pickup heights, action at the saddle, action at the nut but I DO NOT recommend letting people cut their own nuts unless you’re prepared to teach them to fill and recut also.

People keep asking for a soldering class, but I don’t know how to pull that off in my space, but if I had workstations with soldering irons, I would have everyone build a telecaster harness… (or something like that)

    Thanks both of you !

A soldering class could definitly be nice, since pickup swapping is the thing I started tinkering with when I started to play.

Basic setup would be the main attraction but I’ll have to figure out how to include nut action. I’m hesitant to let people use these agressive files I have and ask me to cut them a new bone nut afterwards ahah

Nuts heights would be a hard path. I didn’t do it on the workshops. Is one of the things people who doesn’t know enough tend to do an ruin often.
