These are the tools I use to drill and inlay side dots when I forget to drill the holes before installing the binding.

This is a piece of .007″ shimstock bent to wrap over the binding. It has a small .060″ hole in it.

I center the sharp scribe by eye and make a mark.

This is why I need the long drill device.

This is the drill extension: a long shaft/hex connector. Pull the knurled ring to insert allen shaft of small drill chuck.

I start, and drill, these upper holes since they are hard to drill using a larger drill. (The accessible holes I drill using a normal electric hand drill). Both with the electric drill or pin-vise, I always start the bit in reverse to center it, then I pray and drill (holding the drill as square to the work as possible.

I sharpen a red pencil and spray it with GlueBOOOST accelerator.

Still praying, I put some GlueBoost green superglue in the hole very carefully!

I stick the pencil tip in the hole as square as can be, let it sit a few seconds, then let go and let it dry a little.

Then I trim it off with a super-fine-toothed hobby saw (that I have not been able to find a replacement for and wish I could – I think they stopped making it).

Trimmed and ready for fine sanding. One caveat of this is: take the time to go to a stationery store or online and choose a hard-led red pencil. The”Crayola” pencil Joan got me at Walmart is pretty soft.
