I don’t see any issues with a lam then. Could look kind of cool and you could tell people it was your plan the whole time. There’s no way they would know.

To be clear on option #2 above, I mean gluing veneer to the bottom of the fingerboard to build up total thickness.

I assume that would be fine. The owner thinks they need to be rewound, but he doesn’t actually know. It might be a simpler repair.

I actually use these pots for the guitar pedals I make. Basically you’re looking for a 500k linear dual gang pot. Alpha makes them, I usually get mine from Tayda (in Thailand I believe), although they’re out of stock at the moment.
